Our Veterinarian

Meet the folks who make it all happen. We see big potential in every moment, and care deeply about what we do every day.

Dr. Thomas Tischer

Co-Owner, Veterinarian

Dr. Thomas Tischer

Dr. Thomas Tischer always knew he wanted to work in the medical field, but he wasn’t turned on to animal medicine until college. During his pharmaceutical studies at the University of Minnesota, he was required to take a few courses that were only available through the school’s Veterinary School of Medicine. It didn’t take long for Dr. Tischer to realize that this was where his true passion lay—before he knew it, he was enrolled in veterinary school!

Dr. Tischer was born and raised in Clara City, Minnesota. He attended Concordia College for two years before transferring to the University of Minnesota, where he would earn his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After many years of working in rural Minnesota—where tending to animals housed on farms only accessible by snowmobile was a regular occurrence—Dr. Tischer decided to try his hand at teaching. He applied for a position at Murray State University’s School of Agriculture, Veterinary Technology, and Animal Science, and taught there for two years. Dr. Tischer also met his wife (Neshoba County Animal Hospital’s very own Elizabeth Frohse) during his time at Murray State.

After marrying and moving to San Antonio, Texas in 2004, Dr. Tischer served as an Associate Veterinarian at a pet clinic there for the next five years. He and his wife then relocated again to Mississippi, where they opened Neshoba County Animal Hospital to provide compassionate, client-centered care to the pet owners of the area.

Medically, Dr. Tischer enjoys internal medicine and dermatology work; he even attends continuing education courses in these fields to better his own knowledge. Most of all, though, Dr. Tischer enjoys interacting with loving pet owners just like himself.

Dr. Tischer has one son of his own, Kip, who lives in Seattle, Washington. He also has two step-sons and eight grandchildren! At home, he enjoys the company of Angel, a rescued dog who follows Dr. Tischer everywhere, as well as Elizabeth’s dogs Molly and Mandie. Dr. Tischer and his wife also have two barn cats, Socks and Snowball, and several quarter, paint, and palomino horses.

When he has a spare moment between caring for pets here at the clinic and his duties around the farm, Dr. Tischer enjoys horse breeding and showing. His proudest accomplishment came in 2008, when he took his two-year-old stallion to the Pinto World Show and won first place!
